Aldean received the support of his parents in his musical endeavors. After watching the country music awards on television when he was 14 years old, he became inspired to perform live. He performed at a local Macon VFW hall with the help of his mother, singing songs by Tracy Lawrence and John Anderson.
He subsequently began performing at neighborhood fairs and entering talent competitions. He joined the house band at Nashville South, a bar in Georgia when he was 15 years old. Aldean adopted the stage name Aldean by respelling his middle name, Aldine, in order to set himself apart.
Aldean and his band played at bars and festivals in the Southeast of the United States after graduating from high school with the assistance of his father.
Together with Justin Weaver, a band member, he started writing and recording unique music. When he played songs from his debut album at a showcase in Atlanta in 1998, Michael Knox of the song-publishing company Warner-Chappell took note. At the age of 21, Aldean relocated to Nashville and secured a deal with Warner-Chappell.
Aldean was given a recording contract at first, but the label later let him go. After signing with another label, he had his recording sessions continually rescheduled, which led to a new label dropping him in 2000.
He took part in a number of showcases, but he was unable to land a job. Aldean, who was feeling depressed and disappointed, gave himself six months before deciding to make his way back to Georgia.
