Lynette started working soon after she graduated from university.

She worked as an administrator at the University of Toronto before moving up the professional ladder. Between 1988 and 1994, this happened.

She went on to work for the Canadian Armed Forces after holding this position for a while. Between 1994 and 2000, she worked as a logistics officer.

She worked at the Cabinet Office in London after leaving the Canadian Armed Forces. She was the head of the strategy horizons unit at this office.

She began lecturing at the University of Reading in Berkshire, UK, after holding this position for a while.

She also worked as a senior lecturer of war strategies at the Royal Military Academy from 1999 to 2013.
