Moira Kelly was born on the 6th of March, 1968 in Queens, New York. She was born to Irish immigrant parents; a father’s named Peter who was a professional concert violinist and a mother names Anne who worked as a nurse. Kelly was raised alongside her 5 siblings and she is the third child of the lot.

Although born in Queens, the young girl was raised in the Long Island hamlet of Ronkonkoma. She holds American nationality but as mentioned above, has Irish ancestry.

In 2003, Moira Kelly began to play the role of Karen Roe, a single mom who lived in the town of One Tree Hill in North Carolina, in the series One Tree Hill. She also directed two episodes of the show in 2006 and 2007.
