Elijah Wood is an American actor and producer. Wood was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on January 28, 1981. He began acting at the age of seven, appearing in local theater productions. He moved to Los Angeles with his family at the age of nine to pursue a career in film.
Wood’s breakthrough role came in 1992 when he starred in the film Radio Flyer. He went on to star in a number of other films, including The Good Son (1993), North (1994), Flipper (1996), The Ice Storm (1997), Deep Impact (1998), and The Faculty (1998).
He is best known for his portrayal of Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Wood made his film debut with a small part in Back to the Future Part II.
Since The Lord of the Rings, Wood has starred in a number of other films, including Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Sin City (2005), Everything Is Illuminated (2005), and Bobby (2006). Wood is a vocal advocate for child actors’ rights. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild’s (SAG) Performers for Children Committee. He is also a co-founder of the non-profit organization The Art of Elysium, which provides arts education and support to children in need.
