Timothy David Olyphant is an American actor. His parents are Katherine and John Vernon Bevan Olyphant, who worked as Gallo Winery’s vice president of production.
When Olyphant was a teenager, his parents divorced; both remarried. He is of English, German, Scottish, Dutch, and Irish ancestry, as well as one-eighth Russian-Jewish.
Timothy Olyphant is a descendant of New York’s Vanderbilt family. His fourth great-grandfather was family patriarch Cornelius Vanderbilt; his third great-grandfather was railroad magnate William Henry Vanderbilt; his great-grandmother was socialite Emily Vanderbilt Sloane; and his great-uncle was music producer John Hammond.
Timothy Olyphant made his off-Broadway debut in 1995 in The Monogamist, winning the Theatre World Award for his performance, and then starred in David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries in 1996.
From 2010 to 2015, Olyphant starred as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in FX’s modern-day Kentucky southern gothic Justified, for which he received a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2011 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
