Rolando Andaya Jr. was a Filipino lawyer and politician who served in the Philippines’ House of Representatives. Andaya worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1996 to 1998 before becoming a congressman.
Rolando represented Camarines Sur’s 1st district from 1998 to 2006. Andaya was a member of the “Spice Boys” during his first term, a group of young congressmen who openly criticised President Joseph Estrada and his administration.
He was one of 40 representatives who signed the impeachment complaint against President Estrada in October 2000.
Rolando represented Camarines Sur’s 1st district again from 2010 to 2019. From 2016 to 2018, he served as House Deputy Speaker in the 17th Congress.
From 2018 to 2019, he was the House Majority Leader. He was also the Secretary of Budget and Management in President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s cabinet from 2006 to 2010.
Andaya was married to congresswoman Marissa Mercado-Andaya until her death from cancer on July 5, 2020. Rolando “Ranton” Andaya IV and Katrina Andaya were their two children.
Andaya was discovered dead in his Naga home on June 30, 2022, just five days before his wife’s second death anniversary. His family has yet to reveal the cause of his death. He was 53
