Jack Lloyd was New Zealand’s leading sailing official and Race Director for Volvo Ocean Race. Overall, he was a known figure in international yacht racing.

Moreover, he was involved in resolving sailing disputes, rules, interpretations, and compliance issues for yachting’s jet-set as the sport evolved on a professional level for almost three decades.

Lloyd had been an International Umpire since 1993 and an International Judge since 1996. Not only that, he was an ISAF Umpire Test Administrator and Chairman of the Test Administration Group as well. He also served as Chairman of the International Jury for the 2005-06 race after serving as a member for the previous two races.

Jack Lloyd’s wife is Joss Lloyd. They have two children, Ria and Koby.

Born in Whangarei in 1954, Jack grew up with two sisters in the seaside suburb of Onerahi. Noe was in the Onerahi Yacht Club, one of New Zealand’s premier offshore clubs.

Watching his dad sail, he also started a P-class at the local club. Then, he progressed through a couple of single-handed dinghy classes before heading into keelboat and offshore racing.

His family is pouring the loss, and the entire sailing community has lost a gem.
