Lloyd Morrisett was an American experimental psychologist with a career in education, communications, and philanthropy.
He was one of the co-founders of the children’s television workshop “Sesame Street”.
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, He was a 1951 graduate of Oberlin College with a BA in philosophy.
According to Morrisett, he intended to become a chemist, but after taking a fascinating course in his junior year, he realized he wanted to study experimental psychology.
A native of Oklahoma, he got himself a teaching job in the School of Education at the University of California at Berkeley in 1956, but he was having doubts about academic life.
While at the Social Science Research Council, Morrisett met the Carnegie Corporation, a philanthropic foundation focused on education.
He first joined the company as an executive assistant to Gardner who was serving as the president in 1959, Morrisett later became vice president of the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Morrisett died on January 23, 2023.
