Julius Maada Bio began his primary education at the Roman Catholic Primary School in Tihun, Bonthe District. He continued his education at the Bo Government Secondary School (Bo School), where he graduated with A-level qualifications in 1984. After retiring from the military, Bio pursued higher education in the United States, earning a master’s degree in International Affairs from American University in Washington, D.C.
Julius Maada Wonie Bio had a notable military career, rising to the rank of Brigadier in the Sierra Leone Army. He served during significant conflicts, including the First Liberian Civil War and the Sierra Leone Civil War. Bio played a crucial role in Sierra Leone’s political history when he served as the military head of state from 16 January 1996 to 29 March 1996, leading the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC).
