Jay Rayner wife Pat Gordon Smith is Commissioning Editor at UCL Press. Jay and Pat have two sons named Eddie and Dan Rayner.

The English journalist and food critic has appeared in Top Chef Masters, We Need Answer, and Rob and Romesh Vs. He has also appeared as a guest judge on the YK episode of The Final Table, season 1.

Smith has also served as an editor and project manager. She edited academic and professional books and other publications, mainly in Education and Children’s Rights (and texts on Engineering, Social Work, History, Politics, and Economics).

Gordon’s other jobs include Editor and Publication Manager at National Early Years Network. She edited the award-winning quarterly professional journal, Co-ordinate, and a wide selection of policy briefings, newsletters, leaflets, and professional and academic books.

After decades of her bachelor’s degree, she joined UCL’s Facility of Education and Society for her master’s degree in the sociology of childhood and children’s right in 2005. In 2010, she received her doctorate in Sociology of youth from the same univeristy.

While continuing her studies, she worked as a freelancer, editor, and writer for 11 years. In 2014, after her Ph.D., she joined UCL Press as a commission editor.

The commissioner has been working for the company for about 9 years and is responsible for commissioning half the Press’s books.

Pat has years of experience in commissioning, academic publishing, open access, education, editing, publishing, and writing.

The editor is active on Facebook, which she joined in 2008.

Jay and Pat married in 1987 in a private ceremony. They have been married for more than 25 years and are parents of two children.

Jay Rayner sister Amanda Rayner is a businesswoman who has owned Amanda Rayner Images for 30 years.

She has completed her primary education at Bryon Court Primary and attended Habersadher’s Askes School for Girls for her A Level.

She founded the ‘Focus’ debating and social politics speaking club in high school. She won South East England English Speaking Univon completion in 1978 and was a National bronze winner.

In 1979, Amanda joined Chelsea School of Art, London University, for a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. She did a 3-year graphic design course, including design, photography, typography, print, illustration, and supporting written art history.

After 10 years of work in different places, she finally started her own company in 1992 and named it Amanda Rayner Images.

The entrepreneur is a multiple award-winning event manager with 30 years in the industry. She has organized large and small events, including community activities such as the Shepherd’s Bush Green Festival and town-wide activities.
