Is “Yellow Banana” Racist? Meaning Explained

Yes, the term Yellow Banana is racist in the context of Asian people.

The Bridge exposed the allegation of Chinese players during the game to the world. According to the news, someone from the audience shouted- Yellow banana! Yellow banana!.

This term is similar to the skin color (Non-White) of Asian people. This is completely disrespectful to the player Jingkun. In May 2019, the Chinese player had the highest ranking (6 points).

The player represents China at the World Table Tennis Championships. Before that, he made the round of 32 in the Men’s singles event.

Racism is strongly condemned by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The Federation promised to prevent such incidents in the future.

Liang Jingkun Got Attacked By The Slur

Liang Jingkun, the Chinese table tennis player, got attacked by the slur.

Globletimes reveals that this is not the first case of racism and harassment directed at the Chinese and other Asian player. Such an occurrence occurred from time to time in the recent past.

In a country like America, masculine and adrenaline-pumping games are popular and played. This is the first time the United States of America has hosted the games like Table-tennis.

The incident happened when Jingkun went to discuss with his coach. After their short talk, someone attacked him with the slur “Yellow banana, Yellow banana!!” followed by another audience member for a while.

ITTF Opinion On The Racist Activities

ITTF gave its opinion on the racist activities on Sunday.

ITTF stands for The International Table Tennis Federation. Undoubtedly, the Chinese Table Tennis Federation (CTTF) complaints to ITTF on the topic of slur. They are waiting for strict action.

Meanwhile, ITTF strongly opposed such racist activities and promised to prevent such activities in the future. ITTF said that such activities are not tolerable, and they would be working with local committees.

However, the teams are searching for the suspect. Unfortunately, it is not possible to confirm the real suspect without a clear video.
