In 1977, Amos Lee was born Ryan Anthony Massaro in New York City, and he is an American singer-songwriter whose musical style includes elements of folk music, rock, and soul. He was born in Philadelphia and received his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Following many years of teaching and bartending experience, he decided to get into the music industry.
Blue Note Records signed him when his manager presented a sample tape to them, which led in a recording deal and a connection with vocalist Norah Jones. The Avett Brothers and Norah Jones have all toured with Lee since then, and he has recorded five albums for Blue Note Records and performed as an opening act for Norah Jones, Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello as well as Merle Haggard and Van Morrison. Lee has also performed as an opening act for the Zac Brown Band, Jack Johnson, and the Avett Brothers.
His music has been used on the soundtracks of a number of television programmes and films. He has been on a number of late-night television programmes and at a voter registration event for President Barack Obama, among other appearances. His album Mission Bell landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 list when it was released in 2011.
