Her documentary of the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war, Dateline Bangladesh, was a success in India and across the world.
Mehta also produced and directed a number of documentaries for many British and American networks.
She had authored the books “Karma Cola (1979), In Raj (1989), A River Sutra (1993), Snakes and Ladders (1997)”, which are available in over 21 languages, and have become best-sellers in Europe, the US, and India.
In 2019, she was awarded “the Padma Shri”, which is India’s fourth highest civilian award.
