In a resounding declaration of loyalty, French back-row powerhouse Charles Ollivon has penned a colossal four-year contract extension with Toulon, solidifying his commitment to the club until the year 2027. The 6’7″, 108kg dynamo, who embarked on his professional journey with Bayonne in 2015 before making the move to Toulon the same year, has become a linchpin in both the club and the French national team.
Ollivon’s meteoric rise saw him earn his first cap for France in 2015, and he ascended to the role of captain during the 2020 Six Nations, leading the team to a commendable second-place finish. Over the years, he has established himself as one of France’s premier players, and Toulon has moved swiftly to secure his services for an additional four seasons, carrying him through to his 34th birthday and the culmination of the current Rugby World Cup cycle.
Expressing his gratitude and commitment in an official club statement, Ollivon stated, “Toulon has become my second home, and I am honored to continue to wear this iconic jersey. I look forward to contributing further to the team’s success and sharing more great moments with our exceptional fans.”
Acknowledging the unwavering support of the fans, Ollivon added, “It was important to share this announcement with them today because they are our biggest support on a daily basis. So it’s a way of thanking them for always being behind us.”
Laurent Emmanuelli, Toulon’s director of sport, hailed Ollivon as a pivotal figure for the club, emphasizing his dedication, talent, and determination. Emmanuelli said, “Charles embodies the spirit of Rugby Club Toulonnais. We are delighted to continue this adventure with him until 2027, and we are convinced that his positive impact will continue to spread among his partners on and off the pitch. From this point of view, Charles’ role as captain and catalyst of the team is preponderant.”
In a strategic move, Toulon has also secured the services of American prop David Ainu’u, a formidable 5’10″, 125kg front-row presence, who, like Ollivon, has committed to the club until the year 2027. The club looks set to continue its pursuit of excellence with these key signings, creating a formidable foundation for the seasons to come.
