Anton Fier, one of the early members of The Lounge Lizards and The Feelies, led The Golden Palominos, and was a major player in the downtown NYC scene, has died at age 66.

Fier was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1956 and joined the Feelies in 1978 and left a year later.
Despite leaving the band a year later, he played drums on their 1980 debut album ‘Crazy Rhythms’.
Fier was also an early member of avant-garde jazz group the Lounge Lizards, playing on the group’s self-titled 1981 debut. He also performed in the Voidoids, and was briefly a member of Pere Ubu.
Fier started The Golden Palominos in 1983 whose 1985 album Visions of Excess featured Michael Stipe, John Lydon, Chris Stamey, Syd Straw, Arto Lindsay and more.
Fier kept The Golden Palominos active, off and on, through many lineups, through 2019.
Fier passed away on Sept. 21, 2022.
