He has received five Academy Award nominations, twice for Best Director, one for Deliverance, and the second for Hope and Glory. In his career, he has directed 22 films. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), awarded Boorman with the BAFTA Fellowship for lifetime achievement in 2004.

The film starred Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ronny Cox, and Ned Beatty. The film resulted in several award nominations as it became Boorman’s first true box office success.

Boorman was selected as the President of the main competition jury in November 2012 at the 2012 International Film Festival of Marrakech.

John Boorman co-wrote, directed, and produced the American epic fantasy film of 1981, Excalibur.  Excalibur retraces the legend of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table.
